Someone just referred to me as an 'expert' in a certain area. Flattering, but completely untrue. I make no claims about expertise in any area in which I'm interested or have experience

@scottnesbitt My theory: it makes you feel weird because there's no sense of degrees in the term "expert". It sounds absolute, like you've reached the pinnacle.

Think of it in degrees, instead; if you have more expert points in something than me, then you're "an expert" from my POV.

@klaatu Kind of how I think about it. But I still reject the term expert when it comes to myself.

I know what I don't know, and that's a lot. The fun and interesting part (in most cases) is the struggle to fill in those many blanks
