@scruss yeah, seems like pretty much exactly the same idea but with the bore spiraling around the outside instead of accordioned up inside. I don't really know reed instruments at all but my sense is the alto sax mouthpiece would be easier than the double reed of a rackett.
I bought his e-book with the plans (basically the hole measurements), I've enjoyed his stuff every time I come across it on youtube for years.
My limited grasp of the physics of tube instruments is that the fundamental frequency of 'one closed end' instrument like a clarinet is half that of an open-ended one, but there don't seem to be any "diy weird reed instrument" calculators out there.
