Sittin' around trying to come up with a list of female trickster heroes. I can come up with exactly one whom I'd fully buy as a trickster, and she's not even famous for the story of being a trickster -- Dido, who founded Carthage on as much land as could be covered by an oxhide.
I could be persuaded about Penelope. And I guess Loki isn't male full-time. Hmph.
@sculpin maybe that's why comic creators invented them cartoons too
@sculpin wouldn't female tricksters just be called witches? witches would be the closest thing to tricksters - because careful what you wish for etc etc
@lusyfuhr Yeah, or fairies. Though I was hoping for a figure with a name, you know?
There's also Finn MacCool's wife, in a story (and I don't know how apocryphal this story is, but it's folklore to _me_) about Finn wanting to get out of a fight with Cuchulain. But if she has a name, I don't know it.
@sculpin oh yeah fight the fairies! tinkerbell gets on my nerves because the real ones are aholes
@sculpin I'm in Penelope's camp big-time. She fools *everybody*. She's the only person who makes Ulysses totally lose his cool. Of course it's more grim and serious because women's lives were.
And the point about witches is good, too -- Circe and Calypso, for instance!
Is Cinderella's fairy godmother not a trickster of the stepfamily and the prince?
@sculpin omg i cant think of any either wtf
