Instead of taking the worlds easiest online quiz for intro to film, I ended up playing minesweeper online for literal hours.

I'm not convinced that was actually a problem.

My ethical theory professor was arguing that the more you learn about the moral and ethical impact of your actions, the more ethically problematic the same unethical actions become.

I suppose that means this ethics class is making me a worse person.

I feel like it would be useful to be able to filter toots by language in the local/federated timelines. As an English speaker, I don't really want to see toots in other languages.

It seems like other platforms get this for free simply because you probably don't connect with people who speak languages you don't.

The obvious problem being that it's not always easy to programmatically classify languages (see any automatic translation suggestion tool).

I suppose it's just on me to scroll down.

It's neat seeing the local/federated timelines. It introduces me to way more content that I wouldn't have otherwise found. Especially when starting on a new platform it makes it easier to find new people to follow, and makes it easier to interact with the community at large rather than just your little sphere of influence.

At the same time I think the federation aspect of mastodon is really cool. I'm imagining awesome communities popping up on different instances, each with their own flavor. Maybe that's optimistic.

Some narcissistic part of me hopes that the mastodon.social instance stays closed forever so the "originals" who made an account before it was overwhelmed get some kind of automatic boost in perceived social status

Well, I'm late to this party, but not as late as I was to twitter, sooo
