@semente Instead of being used to hunt down dissent, surveillance gets used to find ways to subtly influence people through feedback loops, and for its chilling effect on subversive behavior.
@semente I have always thought Brave New World was a more accurate prediction of future totalitarianism than 1984. In particular, the fact that they didn't need to worry about an outsider's coming in because their society was *stable*.
