Got an email from Dark Horse Comics (publisher of Hellboy, Witcher, Cyberpunk and Avatar comics) announcing that they are killing the digital comic book libraries their readers accumulated over the years.

Their FAQ makes it painfully clear you DO NOT own the DRM-ridden digital products the stores claim to be "selling" to you.

@pluralistic

@sgsax@mastodon.social @mosiejczuk@mastodon.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr No. You can hold a blue-ray in your hand, but you don't own it because it has DRM.

@2something @pluralistic @mosiejczuk DRM which was broken a loooooong time ago and hard to enforce. DVDs don't require a black box cloud service to use, like other digital media. Years from now, as long as the media hasn't degraded and you still have a device to play it on, you'll still be able to watch your DVD. More germane to this topic, I'm specifically talking about books. I love my printed books. I *own* lots of physical books. I *use* very few ebooks, mostly checked out from my library.
