Chris Shiflett

It is intellectually dishonest to refer to people undecided in this (US) election as being in the center.

Both of these men have been POTUS, with wildly different results. One of them has done a much better job by every measure.

Do I wish he was young and charismatic? Of course. Do I always agree with him? Of course not.

But don’t pretend that being a bad speaker, being old, or being too centrist on some issues makes Joe Biden no better than Donald Trump.

They are not the same.

@shiflett @nazhamid Agreed. Once posted this, but still holds true and is brilliant.

@shiflett it is not intellectually dishonest to want to see them all go - the presidential election is just a puppet election, the bigger stakes are in congressional elections and rooting out entrenched special interests which promulgate the current paradigm

@gary_alderson @shiflett Have you read Project 2025 by the Heritage Foundation?

@ramsey @shiflett i can't read - i am 93 years old, besides they have interests and motivations that don't match mine nd although i am open to other viewpoints at this stage why change horses in midstream? i support change and a changing of the guard as a good general starting point - it is going to happen anyways but needs to be sped up for the next few generations and fair representation purposes

@ramsey @gary_alderson @shiflett have you? It’s not actually as it’s been portrayed.

@ramsey @gary_alderson @shiflett what’s wrong with dismantling the administrative state of unelected bureaucrats and forcing Congress to actually make laws?

@tress777 @gary_alderson @shiflett I’m not going to try to argue with you about it. I was responding to the comment “the presidential election is just a puppet election,” since Project 2025 aims to give the executive branch much more power by doing exactly what you’ve described.

@ramsey @gary_alderson @shiflett I think both parties suck. We need a viable 3rd party.

@tress777 @ramsey @shiflett we really do - making no choice at all is being forced on people who want self determination but isn't that sort of typical? I think things will get clearer as the next few weeks progress - nobody wants (or can) pull the sword out of the stone - we live in an ossified anachronism of a society essentially - the lesson here. #power is never freely given it is always usurped

@gary_alderson @shiflett Term limits and reform lobbying. Those are 2 good starts.

@shiflett Palestinian genocide, Covid dismantling, and the increased funding for military and paramilitary (cops) are not just "being too centrist". People are dying overseas and on our borders with approval. The blood on Biden's hands is not invisible. They are more alike than many people seem willing to accept. Don't argue with me, argue with the children murdered by an American missile fired by the Israeli Occupation Forces. Argue with American and Israeli concentration camps.

@bgannin @shiflett There's no denying it. There's also no denying you have a two party system and that Trump would be worse. So not voting for the most likely candidate to beat Trump is effectively voting for Trump. Same with the First Past The Post system we have in the UK and trying to get the tories out.

@ADGW @shiflett Did I say what my vote is? Or did I criticize the sole Democrat shoved down my throat this year? I’ll stick to dealing with my fascists and you deal with yours.

@shiflett , amen! Further, it is unlikely that I would agree with EVERY policy decision or belief of a President because they are supposed to represent the majority, not just little old me.

@shiflett Folks like you and I who follow politics are often confused that anyone could be undecided or even non-partisan. This twenty year old blog post from Chris Hayes is worth a read.

@shiflett It does feel scary that at this point in time, and even after all that has happened, Trump still seems like he has a non-zero chance of winning the elections. We can all joke about how he is a convicted felon and all; none of this is doing anything to sway his voter base.

@shiflett it’s the genocide, my man

@shiflett Sucks that voting has just become an exercise in harm minimisation

@shiflett Obviously Biden is better. But you make the reasonable side look bad by sounding unreasonable. Biden handed an entire country to Jihadis for a negligible budget post. That's pretty bad. Millions of primarily women in Afghanistan now suffer from this.

@shiflett Are there even really any true undecided voters or just people who won’t tell pollsters who they intend to vote for? I expect most of the “undecided” will either stay home or when they get to the booth they’ll vote for the party they always have, even if they don’t like the candidate.
