Okay, I will call it a day. Next weekend I will clean the keyboard, and then put everything back together (which won't be easy because a lot of screws are missing). I also need to assemble the SD2IEC (floppy emulator) DIY kit I bought. Then it's finally time to run a demo on that machine! 😀

The new caps and DC/DC converters are in! And the board is still working. 😉 The diagnostics hardware I got from @norbert_harrer@twitter.com really paid off today. 🙂 About the SID, I really have the impression that the sound is audibly better than before recapping.

End of the coffee break. I already prepared a zip bag with the new electrolytic capacitors (Vishay and Panasonic) and two Traco Power DC/DC converters that will replace the old 78xx regulators. For the SID, I decided to use a bipolar cap, to enhance audio quality.

With @svenpetersen191@twitter.com 's harness attached to the board, everything is OK now. I also hear the SID play. Next stop: Fresh electrolytic caps, DC/DC converters, and a general cleaning. But first I treat myself with an oat milk coffee! 🙂

It's alive again! 😀 It was just the missing PLA and a broken DRAM chip. The BAD reports are probably because I don't have the full test harness connected to the board yet. This is what I'm going to do next.

The new DRAM is soldered in. Luckily these are the same as for ZX Spectrum repairs. I always have some of them in stock. Okay, let's test again.

Nope, it wasn't just the PLA. I'm getting a video sync, but the screen is black. When I run the C64 Dead Test, I am getting four white flashes. According to the manual it means that the U23 RAM chip is broken. Time to heat up the soldering station! Finally I am getting some repair fun! 😀

Okay, there are no shorts. I powered it up and checked the 5V and 12V lines, both are fine. None of the chips are getting hot. I guess I can seat the PLAnkton now, and connect the board to a monitor. Please cross your fingers that it was just the missing PLA.

There is a lot to do here. Many caps are bent down, and I have to check first that there are no shorted legs. The previous owner also did some soldering attempts, which I need to clean up later.

Inside there's a 250425 board. The machine is PLAgued by a missing PLA, but I PLAnned ahead and am now going to rePLAce it with a PLAnkton, which is more than just a mere PLAgiate made from PLAstic. Will the C64 PLAy after I imPLAnted it? 🤔

Today I'm going to have a look into my red . I bought it a month ago, but had no time for it yet. It was sold as defective. One button is a reset button, the other one pulls the "bus available" line to low (for whatever reason).

I still don't enjoy soldering connectors to cables. But this was the last missing piece I needed before I can finally start to restore my red .

Hey, ab heute gibt es einen weiteren für Fachinformatik! Ich habe eben auch die praktische Prüfung bestanden und damit meinen Ausbilderschein gemacht. 😀

After a much too long time, there is a new release available. There are dependency updates, a few minor bugfixes, and the S/MIME module changed from JavaMail to JakartaMail. I hope that new versions will come more frequently again. github.com/shred/acme4j/releas
