July 4, Hawaii, Independence

Imagine a Native American community who had a Disneyland-like resort built over their villages and ancestor's graves, the people made to do bastardizations of their sacred dances, wear mock 'sexy feather headresses' and entertain the rich tourists for starvation wages, 12 hours a day 7 days a week, living sardine-packed 20-to-a-house. And then be arrested for speaking their own language. It'd be an outrage, right? But that is just everyday life, in US-colonized Hawaii

I'm Native Hawaiian and homeless in my own land. Literally don't know where my family and I will be living at the end of this month.

While American and other foreign billionaires own countless mansions and unoccupied multi-million dollar condos here.

Fuck colonialism and fuck capitalism.

Neofeud is a game about my experiences growing up in Hawaii's ghetto, being a social worker & STEM teacher for poor, homeless, refugees, mostly non-white kids in slums of Hawaii the tour buses avoid, while living out of a van. 100% of sales go to putting a roof over my kids' head.

US Imperialism, Hawaii, Independence

The TMT is US-led settler colonialism in Hawaii. A 1.4 billion dollar capitalist corporate project founded in racism, without consent from the indigenous people, based on lies, and threatening of police violence against native Hawaiians.

As a Native Hawaiian living here, the massive environmental waste will also impact the water that my kids drink. Fuck colonialism, capitalism, and TMT.

Hawaii, US Colonization, Mass-Arrests

@silverspookgames I wish it all sorts out for you (and the whole Havaii).

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@silverspookgames interesting. I have friends who are involved in permaculture and similar movements. One couple I know went to Ecuador to do research with indigenous people and are involved in the open source seeds (or 'freed seeds') movement. I volunteered on a community forest garden in my town for a bit.

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@highfellow @silverspookgames Trash was invented by the Western culture. The other cultures before knew such a thing hardly. What Western culture columbused and calls "sustainability" and such was/is the normal way of life for most of the human cultures.

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@carl @silverspookgames yes I understand. I think this is why my friends are going out to the amazon to talk to people there - to learn from them before this knowledge is lost. Also I think they help advocate for indigenous people in western contexts.

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@highfellow @silverspookgames As if indigenous people needed that. What is needed, is a stop of Western-style exploitation of everybody else. This is about self-recognition of Westerners and self-change. Then "advocacy" is not needed, as it was before the Western cultures started their crimes on the world.

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@carl @silverspookgames I agree there are a lot of problems with Western society. It seems to feed and feed but not give back. I think this happens to poorer and more vulnerable members of this society as well as to people from colonised cultures. This is speaking as someone who has suffered from mental health problems for years partly caused by trying to find some way to exist in this world that makes some sense to me and finding that difficult.

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@highfellow @silverspookgames This might be part of the damage Western culture does to their own members. Listen more, follow more marginalized people (women, Black people, Black lesbian women, Black trans people, you get the idea). They found out / had to find out a long time ago. Emphasis here is on LISTENING for you, not speaking.

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@carl @silverspookgames what kind of experiences led to you wanting to write your game? If you want to talk about it? I have seen you post about it a few times and it looks cool.

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@highfellow @silverspookgames LISTENING does not equate interviewing, questioning nor interrogating. It is a _passive_ endeavour.

Hawaii, Colonization, Capitalism

@carl @silverspookgames well I have similar feelings about listening and talking in relation to power differentials that come from my dealings with the Western psychiatric system, so I am willing to listen if you have anything you want to say to me. I do read some writings by marginal groups of people like an essay by Audre Lorde that I have found helpful in my own struggles, so I am not completely ignorant of what you are talking about.

@silverspookgames Have been meaning to pick this up for a while, but I'd rather wait till it's not on sale <3

Hawaii, Decolonization, Capitalism

@silverspookgames Regardless of the economic system in play, transitioning off fossil fuels is going to require the construction of a lot of new infrastructure. If we let rural communities veto it at will, then we're not going to make the transition in time. There are very few places where we can build an adequate number of wind mills with a 2-3 miles setback.

Hawaii, Decolonization, Capitalism

@nocleverhandle @silverspookgames That sounds like a good chance for you to offer the community you live in as a location for a windmill.
