Ugh I still haven't put this cooperative organic free-range hellsite on my phone because there's too many choices, but now #twitterisdown and I need one (1) dompanine. Is there an iPhone app that anyone actually likes?
Man it is like a breath of fresh air that that Google media outreach person who used to always namesearch and reply to me whenever I complained about the quality of a Google product by name is never gonna figure out how to find my posts on Mastodon. I'm free! The panopticon's all-seeing eye is clouded! Tomorrow I'm gonna post something negative about a science fiction author and not even worry about them seeing it
I'm happy to announce that my barebones ActivityPub server, implemented in Node.js/Express, is now open source! I intend for it to be a reference implementation for developers who are adding ActivityPub to their own services, but also it is an application server that you can build on if you want.
In other words, t's a few hundred lines of code that lets you create Mastodon-compatible accounts that can accept follow requests and post stuff to their followers.
To be clear, only possible because I've been hacking on a compiler frontend for the same language for months. Written in typescript in part to be releasable publicly while being next to useless for students in CMU's compilers class.
The first two of four projects in CMU's compilers class can be completed incorrectly by writing an interpreter and outputting assembly code that returns the answer. This is a bad idea if you're a student but I took some pleasure in doing the first major assignment in half an hour in #typescript last night.
Finally got the back patio and flowerbed back to it's deweeded baseline after a summers worth of barely-manged overgrowth. #gardentoot
