I should learn japanese so I can:

=> read the actual up to date Splatoon Twitter
=> read most of what mastodon is tooting about these days
=> communicate with a bigger audience on mastodon because they also seem nice
=> read the instructions on those crafty candies that cost $12 at candy shops but $3 at h-mart

does duolingo have japanese. I feel like duolingo focuses on stuff that uses the latin alphabet but they have a few others, right. they had a few languages in "beta" that included korean iirc, I haven't checked in a while

@splatoon it does not, which is a shame. Try Memrise, appsto.re/us/-tb6L.i and I like this little phrase book, appsto.re/us/zThmhb.i

@kioken thank you for the resources!! although I don't use an iphone, memrise has a google store app too, so I'll be sure to look into it

@splatoon I had a feeling. Memrise is fun and if you want to get serious the price isn't terrible. I'm considering getting online classes.

@splatoon You should totally do it!

I think #WaniKani is very effective at helping you to memorise #kanji. I started studying Japanese in about 2005, but I could never systematically get the readings. I've been doing WaniKani since January, and it's been great.

You learn custom radicals to break characters down, then the characters they make up, and then vocabulary, but it doesn't teach grammar, etc. You set your own pace, and it has a very active community.

Check it out!
