New release of Joinmarket; pretty important one, communication is now quasi-p2p (though we still have IRC for now, redundantly).

Also we tweaked fidelity bond valuation after some discussion, but everything is user-configurable.

Canvassing opinion on fidelity bond settings in #joinmarket before a new release (not any particular date, just 'soon'):

New release of JoinMarket is being planned soon. Before that there's now discussion about potential changes in fidelity bond settings. Even if you are just JM user, not developer at all, your opinion would not hurt here. github.com/JoinMarket-Org/join

In case you missed it I made a video with waxwing about Schnorr Signatures.

He covers:
- commitments
- challenge-responses

A set of decentralized actors can enforce the simple ruleset, but only because ...

In 2021, it was "proof of work is bad", but it's like they've finally got to the deepest layer of what makes Bitcoin actually innovative, and actually 'work': PoW. It's only because of this mechanism that a decentralized ruleset can lead to a stable convergence on a global state.

Of course these 3 cropped up continuously from the earliest days, but there seem to have been trends.

Joinmarket v0.9.3 is released, it is important for makers to upgrade, as it fixes a bug where they could lose dusty amounts! See release notes first section for details.

Please spread this so makers update ASAP, thanks!

This means that you can write a RPC client against the OpenAPI/swagger definitions in there. It does all the basic wallet, taker and maker functions, just some of the "advanced" features are missing.
Feel free to spread this info to anyone who likes building a web type UI for Joinmarket. We have a couple of proof of concepts in React and Angular but they're not up to date with that spec. There's even a bounty, fwiw.

New release of Joinmarket 0.9.1 :

github.com/JoinMarket-Org/join

Bugfix release (the bugs were not critical/dangerous but were a big annoyance for a user of a fidelity bond utxo, since several spending paths were not working correctly, also some situations where you might expect to use them, you can't, so docs were updated, and users should definitely read the release notes about that).

The three most important things experts understand about software security:

1. Software is unbelievably unreliable and insecure.

2. No, really, you have no idea.

3. It’s actually even worse than that.

This week we are going to release a new version of Joinmarket, if you feel inclined, please test latest master (we froze changes to Joinmarket code at github.com/JoinMarket-Org/join - but you'll see a couple extra commits for docs and similar next few days. You can ignore them.).

(No, there's no release branch).

I notice people often say 'privacy is a prerequisite for censorship resistance'. No, it isn't.

Privacy and secrecy are fundamentally brittle. Bitcoin was built from the ground up to be *robust* (and no, i don't mean antifragile). There is no encryption anywhere in it.

If the shit ever hits the fan you might be relieved to learn BTC can give you censorship resistance even where privacy breaks.

('But miners ... ' - yes, permanently centralized mining kills the system).
