Question for chicken owners, out of curiosity: what do you think the ACTUAL price of a dozen eggs is from the backyard chickens?
Include: feed, enclosure/repairs, lost chickens from predators, vet visits, chicken retirement lodge, chicken sweaters and hats, etc etc? #chickens
@ai6yr Still better than the price of meat after relatively recently taking up hunting as an adult, which currently stands at several thousand dollars per pound :P
@TonyYarusso @ai6yr I'm still at about, $2000 a pound. But it would fall quite a bit if I got off my ass and went hunting more:-) There is an economy of scale thing going on:-)
@TonyYarusso @ai6yr mine is two quail and a rabbit. One flushed so close to me it "blowed up" and the other, left it on a cliff and could not get to it. But rabbits are good protein. Well, rabbit was protein. I'm not a good hunter. But I can get a blacktail or a cottontail anytime I am hungry enough*, so there is that.
* Not because I am a good hunter but because there are 100 blacktail hares and 200 cottontails in my yard ...
@stalbaum @TonyYarusso @ai6yr You can die on a diet of rabbit protein, so would need to mix it up. It's called rabbit starvation. ;)
@CStamp @TonyYarusso @ai6yr well, we have palo verde and mesquite seeds, but yeah! Everywhere different. I'm very rural and think about these things... In my small town about half of the people already depend on Feeding America...
