now this makes me think, why limit interaction with the ? how about extending or whatever you want to be able to interact with all sorts of "backends"? even like... with email? or proprietary services so you destroy their "lock-in"?

Can't find it now, but I think at some point Friendica also supported seeing your email in your stream?

That must get weird if it's things like bills, official letters etc, but if you had a separate email account for social contacts it could work quite well.
