This is fascinating: How NASA's early images of the moon were much better than we realised: worldofindie.co.uk/?p=682

@stevelord
Take that, moon landing conspiracy theorists!

No, seriously, this is amazing and exciting at the same time.

@stevelord "The Lunar Orbiters never returned to Earth with the imagery. Instead, the Orbiter developed the 70mm film (yes film) and then raster scanned the negatives with a 5 micron spot (200 lines/mm resolution) and beamed the data back to Earth using lossless analog compression, which was yet to actually be patented by anyone." 😱 😍

@annika I know, it's insane isn't it! Did you read the bit about hanging the pictures in a church? Nuts!

@stevelord I was reading that, and saw the name Dennis Wingo, and thought "hey, I knew a Dennis Wingo who was into rocket science". Turns out it's the same guy, a friend I Iost touch with 20 years ago, who did the restoration. We just traded email, and I'll be visiting with him next time I'm on the left coast.

Thank you for posting this!

@stevelord I had to chuckle at the people arguing MB/Mb in the comments XD
