Stephen M. Cameron
Was flipping through the X11 Xlib reference manual for no real good reason, as one does, and came across this, a peculiar font called "ent" with a single glyph, of the star ship Enterprise. Googling around, I can't really find any reference to this. Does any remnant of this exist on modern linux systems?

Steve Herman
Shortwave listeners noting China already taking over some frequencies used by VOA and RFA as USAGM has silenced its own transmitters. Especially critical with thousands of casualties in the Myanmar M7.7 quake where survivors would normally be receiving vital info from our Burmese language services.

john spurling
UNIX includes a command to deal with your cat walking on your keyboard. When your cat is coming, you just type "cat" and press enter, and your cat's input won't mess anything up.

rob pike
We have been public about not using Go as the bootstrap language. We started with a compiler in C for a number of reasons, mostly for ease of bootstrapping but also to avoid making a compiler-optimized language instead of a general purpose one. Once the language was designed, we ported the code to Go for ease of maintenance and development.

Well here is a variant of that pattern: the TypeScript compiler is also being ported to Go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNlq-EVld70

The video is worth watching for the reasons why. Turns out a general purpose language is indeed a good compiler language.

Matt Baggott
A few great 1967 pics of Owsley Stanley (birthday boy yesterday) taken by Ron Rakow over on Instagram. (Can someone jailbreak these from Instagram? Also anyone know what building they are at? From the garage and buildings across the street, it looks to me like 158 Alpine Terrace, San Francisco or the building next door.) https://www.instagram.com/p/DFBbfJZRPdQ
