Just found the "Filter out by regular expression" option here on Mastodon.
This is the greatest platform ever. https://mastodon.social/media/Qa7h0yy-UIDQGg5g9gA
@theresatagonmyshirt It lets you filter out toots that you don't want to see. So say you don't want to see any toots that contain the word "twitter", you'd put "/(twitter)/ig" in that box. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression
@theresatagonmyshirt Actually, you just have to put "twitter" in the box :-P The delimiters are put there for you already
@svenluijten whats the necessary punctuation between words in #regularexpression box, is a space mark sufficient? also is the tagging case-specific? itd be nice if the box indicated what it's for, all it says is "advanced"
@theresatagonmyshirt read up on regex ๐
@svenluijten I'm not a programmer, i just want to correctly use the filter box on this site . i left spaces between words, used lower case, hope that works
@theresatagonmyshirt use the pipe character ("twitter|facebook")
@svenluijten thx will do but why would I ever want to exclude FB hahaha
@svenluijten I'm still experimenting with filters . if i exclude twitter what does the filter program look for? any toot that includes the word twitter? any url link that includes twitter?
@svenluijten just got my first empirical evidence of success . i added youtube to the exclusion list - and immediately after a post with a YT link disappeared from my home feed
@svenluijten but i did the same thing with bandcamp and it didnt work .. programming is a mysterious craft =P
@svenluijten thx where do I find it in mastodon settings
@theresatagonmyshirt just above the main timeline on the web app. On mastodon.social, at least...
@svenluijten @chr where do I find regular expression box in cybre
@theresatagonmyshirt @svenluijten click the little slider icon above the scrollbar on the home/notifications timelines
@chr @svenluijten found it just as you pinged . thx A.
@svenluijten saw that a few days ago now cant find it . what does it let you do ?
