Forteen year old daughter needs to hand over her iPhone 6 for two weeks because of bad grades at school. Excellent, now I have a proper test device to enrol in the iOS 12 beta program

All my kids need this soo badly. That, or unbreakable glass in phones.
RT @sehnaoui@twitter.com Student designs a ‘Mobile Airbag’ that deploys when your device is dropped. Genius!

Upgraded the 13" MacBook to MacOS Mojave public beta. Dark mode is nice. And Mojave mostly working fine. Will be test-driving it today.

Apple reparatie programma.

Tested Ubuntu 18.04 running Wayland on my MBP 13" with Intel graphics. Works like a charm, no performance issues. The only issue remaining is non scaling applications / toolkits. There's quite some of that (Java apps, Firefox, Gimp I believe) .

This is the end of my linux on the Macbook trials for now. Will see again after 18.10 or 19.04 :-)

Too bad, just as buggy. And as Pop!OS is mostly a vendors work to support their own hardware, I will not pursue this further right now. !os

Rebooting to MacOS and turning to my Friday routines : getting a 4 year old to school :-)

Ah, a bugfix github.com/pop-os/hidpi-daemon, maybe I will get lucky. As it seems to effect Intel graphics, I will try Pop! on the other Macbook with the nvidia chip.

Just tried running Pop! OS on the Macbook (system76.com/pop). Potentially this could be great, it has a special daemon to handle the different resolutions ands scaling. Alas it still seems a bit buggy. It seemed to work nicely at first, but I pushed my luck by rearranging the screens in the display settings panel. !os

Hmm too bad Elementary does not seem to support Wayland or anything else to support mixed DPI modes. For my Macbook to works nicely 'on the road' it needs to support all kinds of video output while still driving my retina screen too at a pleasant resolution.

(and nothing is planned for the 5.0 release as far as I can tell)

Ubuntu Macbook update : it is an Elementary Macbook now :-)

Macbook is an 2014 MBP 13 inch.

Hopefully the new release will be out soon because ... new

As for the MBP 15" model with discrete graphics: I've ordered an external thunderbold connected SSD to make dual booting just a little easier, so no plan on stopping there either.

This desktop fiddling gives me more joy than I expected. Probably because there is no real pressure on it now.

Ubuntu Macbook update : As I ran into some performance limitations with wayland+discrete graphics, I'm working on switching macbooks. I've got another MBP with integrated graphics only. This is a 13" 2014 model.

Making a final backup of MacOS now, checked that Elementary 5 is not out yet, getting ready to unleash the Ubuntu 18.04 Penguin!
