For the non-German crowd: German Blockchain/Bitcoin convention hosts Alice Weidel who's the chairwoman of Germany's fascist AfD party.

You do you, Bitcoin / Blockchain community. I didn't expect any ethics in the first place.

@tante what I find particularly distasteful about the whole bitcoin hype (other than it reinforcing capitalism) is when its actually used for transactions its done in a way to bypass taxes and laws of democratic govts like DE, NL and UK.
Although I personally feel drugs should be decriminalised, I think its a decision to be made by the democratic system and I also noticed cryptocurrencies being used to buy *tobacco* in DE and NL where tax isn't even excessive and helps fund public healthcare..
@bob @tante they were quite widely used to get drugs a few years ago but (in UK at least) the extra effort involved often led to middle class lads buying bulk and getting into dealing to friends to cover the costs/effort (and eventually ending up in prison, especially when they end up getting something stronger than expected and their friends start keeling over). Mention bitcoin even to a non tech person here and they immediately think "drugs/ransomware" payments.
@tante One conference doesn’t speak for the whole community. It can’t. That community is decentralised. As with everything that gains mainstream popularity, there are good and bad actors involved.
@tante She's also a member of Mont Perelin Society. I don't know how this is related to your toot but I somehow felt obliged to mention this xD
@tante well the website looks like Alice Weidel was removed from the conference speakers list.
Not that I was surprised by people close to the ideas of the AfD being there in the first place
@tante ahahahah. That's hilarious. Afd is a fucking joke
@tante
Ugghhh ich möchte sagen können, dass das mich überrascht, aber... eigentlich nicht im Geringsten. x.x;
If you'd be surprised to see Bitcoin people ("aren't they libertarians?") buddy with fascism: Read @dgolumbia@twitter.com's book on Bitcoin: "The Politics of Bitcoin: Software as Right-Wing Extremism" http://amzn.to/2ECzoOK
