I had a chat with a friend last week during a visit to Colorado. He was surprised to learn of the safety protocols I have adopted when I visit the US, including requiring a chaperone to & from airports and not eating outside the hotel without company. That is only after the family agrees the area is reasonably safe for me and I research hate crime stats and laws re: open carry & stand your ground. He understood immediately. But I started to wonder how many others would be surprised or relate.
I am delighted to share the result of @actualham and my latest collaboration: The Open Pedagogy Notebook, a space where educators can browse diverse examples of #OpenPedagogy in practice as well as share their own practices & ideas. Visit: http://openpedagogy.org/ #YearOfOpen Special thanks to Steel Wagstaff for designing the site and to Amanda Coolidge and @karencang for contributing to our initial set of examples.
My experience of mastodon: diving through a trapdoor into a poorly lit space and gradually discovering how big it is and how many other people are also sheltering in here, and how the one thing we have in common is human.
Given the intense focus on identity as divisive at the moment, this strangely anonymised space for meeting people according to their thoughts alone feels rare and hopeful.
