I love coming here to just scroll. So much and general life stuff to peek in at.

Good times with meetings. At least they are useful today.

Basically, if a thing doesn’t exist in my then it doesn’t exist in my brain. I have no idea why I’m wired this way but I can’t get electronic calendars to work for me - I need the visual spread of events.

Scheduling time for creative work means I prioritize that creative work instead of getting sidetracked, which is great. But seeing it laid out on paper also gives me a tangible record of things I am DOING to flip through when I feel like a loser who never gets anything done.

I started using a #planner so I wouldn’t overcommit and miss out on cool things I wanted to do. A side effect has been that I leave notes for myself now that wind up being really useful. This week’s note: Show more

Perhaps, just perhaps, I should not have started my day with a playlist of covers of Leonard Cohen songs.

a = still grieving a lot of loss this year.

b = seasonal depression

c = Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah

a+b+c= crying in my car on the way to work

Good times!

I am countering this with the covers episode. It’s going to be a morning.

@jorty Ultimately only you can figure out your learning style but once you do it will help because you have a way to counter some of the anxiety.

I also really recommend trying LOTS of new things. Practice failing! It’s a skill just like anything else. The more you do it, the less it feels like everything depends on immediate success.

Remind yourself that your worth is not dependent on your success at a rando skill - your worth is reflected in your willingness to learn.

Fediverse, any fans of the Great British Bee?

I gotta start tagging better. and so on.

Tl;dr: gd Instagram brows need maintenance.

I wonder if there’s, like, an instance based on sharing and discussing femme skills. I’m plucking my eyebrows and I can talk about eyebrow shaping forever but also it’s a pretty specific interest but also also I’m not looking for a mainstream beauty situation. I want big queer aesthetic conversations and femmes across genders.

And also maybe new tweezers.

Dammit.

Some armchair grammarian tryna correct a copy editor over their use of the word "sneaked", saying that "snuck" is correct

Clown doesn't realise "sneaked" is standard, from the 1600s, and "snuck" is an acceptable dialectal variant, coming from late 19th century northern America

Many candles are lit and I guess the living room is cozy and whatnot. It’s cold and that is not my preferred way to live at all.

But I’ve got books on the Kindle app and writing to do. And there is dinner. So none of this is bad.

What are you doing tonight?

Is there interactive fiction that has more text than graphics, in the vein of Inkle Studio's 80 DAYS game? I'm looking at Episode Interactive but it's also labeled "Teen" and involves IP that I'm not interested in.

I want the new Bjork album now, not later. In the meantime I GUESS I will listen to literally all of her other stuff and somehow I will survive.

The best thing about Mastodon right now is the incredibly indie slant to the creators who've migrated here. Queer folks, folks of color, and women creating and telling their own stories in a space unencumbered by industry gatekeeping sentiments? This is great.

Continuing active use and what I like here is absolutely the willingness of strangers to engage.

That’s a function of the instances being relatively small at this point. I dig it because smaller spaces are easier to navigate - but I wonder how true that will remain as the site grows. I’ve already seen comments from longer-term users noting the influx.

What it means right now personally is that I am looking to chat and am following generously. I’ll reevaluate as things progress.

Gotta be honest: everything that makes a sound is annoying me today. This is a definite sign that I need some food for lunch and also some hydration.

One of the reasons I’ve developed such a hatred of capitalism as a system is that it rewards people for overriding and ignoring things like hunger signals and a periodic need for movement.

Obvy I am totally subject to that as well, which is why I just ordered food I will eat at my desk while on a phone meeting. But argh, you know?

It’s funny how a new platform makes me so much more open to replying to total strangers. I’m usually weirdly reserved, like I’ve mapped in-person social rules to online stuff and I don’t want to interrupt an establish convo. But we’re all just hanging out and yelling on a playground here and why not yell at each other to say hi?

I joined a different instance a while ago but didn’t dive into it. As much as this place is like the tweeter, this also reminds me of old school bbs in someways, chatrooms on mega chat sites in others. Everything old on the internet is new again.

Obligatory post: spec fic and semi-pro - I like red lipstick and and hosting pot luck dinners. I’ve done some cool stuff but I always forget because I’m trying to do whatever comes next.

Please let's not have mastodon become the newest ello.
