Have you considered contributing to ? It's like Wikipedia but for maps - a map that everybody can edit! Today, the NSW Address Import project added thousands of addresses for West Pennant Hills, Warrawee, and West Pymble.

If you know those areas, check it out and start mapping!

@thinkMoult You'll have to go through and add the buildings now! 😁

@rory @thinkMoult
on a totally unrelated note: are there any fixes incoming for the Japanese romanization bug?

@Antanicus hmmm? Which bug? I don't know about this? If you mean the main map on OSM.org, you can check the openstreetmap-carto project

@rory the issue is covered here: github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/is

Basically all Japanese names are romanized as if they were Chinese, resulting in meaningless maps

@Antanicus Ah, that is a bug alright... Doesn't look like it's fixed, alas...

@rory I hope it will be by the time I travel to Japan... I've been advertising OSM to all my friends for months on end, it would be a big fail if I had to fall back to proprietary maps when traveling :D

@Antanicus erk, I can see the problem.

Is Maps.me (aka 'Maps' on fdroid) any better in this regard?

@thinkMoult I considered it and contributed almost 30000 map changes.

@thinkMoult Once you understand some of the basics (how to add and edit map objects in the online map editor, id for example), you can help humanitarian tasks internationally at tasks.hotosm.org/ too!

@blankideogram absolutely :) I have a hotosm account and have tried it out.

@thinkMoult tried to fix a mistake on a cycle path once. Couldn't figure it out.

@thinkMoult I have contributes to OSM quite a bit in my area :)
It's my go-to mapping project since I've gotten my Garmin GPS
