Many Google services on Android devices and iPhones store your location data even if you’ve used a privacy setting that says it will prevent Google from doing so. Unacceptable. apnews.com/828aefab64d4411bac2

@torproject so what's the best way to avoid this short of not using your phone? It seems choices are very slim.

Root phone to nonGapp ROM?
Stop using Google and start using openstreetmaps or other open data services?

Maybe we can come up with a list of services that somewhat provide what the big ones do but still respect user privacy

@shrestha
The article talks a lot about things stored inside a Google account. So I guess the first thing to do is to not use the phone with a Google account.
@torproject

@shrestha @torproject You don't have to root your phone to install another ROM and go non-gapps. All you need to do is unlock bootloader and install custom recovery. If you want to use some apps that require GCM to push notifications, go MicroG.
