apprenticeships are actually really good for learning skills and idk why we as a society stopped doing those as a widespread thing for different trades

on the other hand, there's something to be said for a certain level of figuring it out for yourself? you can't be too creative if you're inundated with current thinking. i just think that getting to know the existing tools is necessary as a base, at least, to get an idea of what's possible, and where you can stretch the boundaries, and what you lack to do that, etc.
