Microsoft Build Tools doesn't come with SQL server data tools, which is fine, you want the package to be small after all. Not everybody is using SQL Server.

Microsoft offers the SQL server data tools separately.

If you install that, IT INSTALLS ITS OWN COPY OF THE MICROSOFT BUILD TOOLS

So, if your build server is still using the Microsoft build tools you installed first GUESS WHAT BUCKO, YOU STILL CAN'T BUILD SQL

Microsoft: So how does modular software work?

Competent devs: *long explanation*

Microsoft: Ok so I should just release 10 different flavours of my software and they don't work together right?

Competent devs: No, that's not-

Microsoft: Sounds great!
