Looking for cool movies to watch with my 10 year old who hasn't seen a lot of cool movies yet.

First up is The Dark Crystal.

What else? What movies mattered to you when you were ten?

@viTekiM I loved Finding Nemo. I still do, really.

@viTekiM Nightmare Before Christmas is a must, yeah?
and/or
The Brave Little Toaster

@viTekiM

Kinda depends on the 10 year old...

Mine liked explosions

Galaxy Quest was okay for that age

If he likes Dark Crystal then there's always Labyrinth

I would think any good fantasy or sci-fi movie would fit at that age.

Try these:

Secret of NiMH, Harry Potter, LOTR, Monty Python and the holy Grail (little naughty), Princess Mononoke, Edward Scissorhands, Men In Black, Wargames, Zorro the Gay Blade, The Iron Giant, Spirited Away, and The Princess Bride

@viTekiM

My daughter also really liked Song of the Sea, which seemed to be a pretty wonderful movie

@ThatDamnCat Great list! Thanks!

(Except WarGames... One of my favorite movies of all time, but I have a feeling it's stuck forever in the cold war)

@viTekiM

My kids will watch it. They still find it interesting.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly also went over well with my kids, surprisingly.

Time Bandits would be a good one.

Yes, Krull

It's fun to try out some different genres and styles because you never know what will stick

A Series of Unfortunate Events went over okay. I still like the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Lego Movie was good

My daughter loved Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Okay, done. 😉

@lertsenem

I've never seen those. I really need to fix that huh?

@viTekiM Oh yeah! And you're in for a treat!

All of them are safe and enjoyable by 10 years old too, except maybe Princess Mononoke. It definitely didn't traumatized me, but there is some violence and nightmares potential in it, so I'd recommend you check it beforehand to decide by yourself. For the others you can go with closed eyes. Err, I mean, you know, don't really close your eyes. :]

@viTekiM when I was 10... Clue, Edward Scissorhands, Fantasia, and The Secret of NIMH were probably my favorites.

@viTekiM Star Wars IV-VI, the TMNT movies.
Some John Wayne movies.

I think I would have liked Spirited Away (it came out long after I was ten)

@viTekiM I was a pretty big fan of Labyrinth when I was that age. And the Star Wars original trilogy. Beyond that, I don't really remember.
