Pinned toot

Currently in London, getting an education in South Asian history and politics. (No, the irony is not lost on me!) Used to be a journalist back in India. Plan to return to the country and the profession in a year, if the fascists let either of them survive till then.

Revealing interview with a man who had an inside view of one of South Asia's most influential religious-political movements - Farooq Maududi, son of Jamaat-e-Islami founder Maulana Syed A'la Maududi. memri.org/reports/jamaat-e-isl

How to stop setting same toot multiple times every time it is boosted by a new person? On one 2-min scroll, I saw a single toot 5 times.

, or 001: People everywhere use the word* 'pariah', when you do, you understand what casteism mean. At other times, you don't? That it is no longer practised or not practised in x country is a LIE by colonisers. And no you cannot use that slur.

*'Pariah' is a slur, a violent slur that no one is even reclaiming, so why are people using it casually? Yes, English language is full of colonisation & the worship of other colonisations so it turned an insult towards a group to a 'word'.

Owaisi made a very valid point. What if the mosque was never demolished. The land was still disputed. Then, would the SC have ordered demolishment of a structure? A 16th century heritage site?

As promised, mastodon.social code of conduct has been updated to add "casteism and advocation of casteism" to the list of explicitly prohibited offenses

Some reports take me a lot longer to resolve since I'm not from India.. Is there maybe someone in this community who is willing to help me with this?

Unfortunately I can't offer any payments like mastodon.social so it would be a passion job!

You can apply by sending me a DM with some details about yourself and how you are affilaited with India.

I can't reply on them all but please so apply 🙂 #mstdn #moderation

So three findings emerge:

1. That the 1949 installation of idols was illegal
2. That the 1992 demolition was illegal.
3. No evidence that Babri masjid was build by *demolishing* a temple.

I don't know if the matter was in front of independent India's Supreme Court or a Brahmin dharma sabha from medieval period.

And after I confirm, usually the follow/favourite/boost button doesn't update, so I'm never sure if it worked.

What's with the constant interstitial pages asking me to confirm my id when I try to follow someone/favourite something? Is there some way to get around them?

In an ideal world, without majoritarian terrorists and a spineless supreme court, we could have had something like this in Ayodhya.

Don't know much about Turkish politics, but I visited Istanbul once and was super impressed with how they've handled the Hagia Sophia - preserving its Islamic and Christian pasts, allowing them to coexist literally side-by-side.

From today's research about the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council: a court in London becomes god to a tribe in India...

@Gargron Hey, since this instance now has thousands of Indian users with heavy engagement, can you please also add casteism to this point?

Takes being in a foreign country to really appreciate how much of a monopoly Hindi-speaking North Indians claim over the Indian identity.

I joined Twitter in 2009 and deleted 50k tweets individually in 2014 after I couldn't handle the abuse, sexism, the homophobia, casteism and transphobia. Twitter was a beautiful place for me and it began to change after 2014.

I am here to hopefully, one day see Twitter become obsolete.
