getting vaguely unsettled by the number of new ways silicon manufacturers are inventing to invalidate your hardware warranty in software

at least intel will sell you a $30 upcharge for one free replacement on a chip whose warranty you tore up by overclocking it


like maybe this is just weird growing pains after the broad deployment of software clock + voltage regulation in desktop chips and before manufacturers have enough data to figure out which kinds of out-of-spec operation actually damage silicon, but I'm not holding my breath
