I have a gen 3 echo dot which I have no intention of using in its original, factory state. It was a regift from my grandfather, who passed it off out of privacy concerns (same bro)
I'm willing to get weird with this.
(Secrets are only provided to running processes, not persisted on disk-- and I definitely forgot, restarted manually, and wondered why services didn't start... they were neatly blocked waiting for keys needed to run! teehee whoopsy! Might spend a sec making it clearer to myself when this happens....)
Noticed my NixOps-managed Nextcloud instance (basically `services.nextcloud.enable = true;` FWIW!) wasn't working, but since I build/deploy against my own nixpkgs tree (changes haven't sent upstream yet, sometimes because still working on them) I was worried something important broke and I'd missed it but since couldn't think of anything relevant recent waited until today, finally settled in for a serious debugging session and.. problem resolved in 30sec: `nixops send-keys -d ndevix` haha oops
I popped downstairs for a snack and remembered we have some eggo waffles.... But not many left.... So Clare might be upset ..... and now I'm excitedly hoping for chance for "if I understand, what you're saying is..'leggo my eggo'???" :D. #ThenStoreSoLessChanceOfMurder
my $5000 oscilloscope can't connect to the network because a wifi-enabled lightbulb stole its fixed IP address.

friend: what's a data scientist?
me, a data scientist: it's a scientist that uses data
friend: wow. really?
me: yeah. before the 2000's scientists didn't use data
friend: holy crap. what did they use?!
me: sorry dude! we don't have any data on that and I don't like to speculate.
used this amazing bug to illustrate two's complement wraparound in class today
Hahaha this image came up in a convo about -ffast-math (-Ofast actually, but nvm) and it's the greatest: https://nilemathclass.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/maths-jokes-12.jpg .
I keep imagining someone seeing, instead of cute silly, the possible fallout of unsound optimizations re:precision.
"That's not the sum of 26.86 and π!..."
"Well maybe if you built your code with -ffast-math *compiler-nerd-laughing*"
(the best kind of laughter?! 💙)
And THEN this was shared by such a person and reached me. I love it. And now reached you. \o/
