Sorry for ruining your attempt at humour, but:
1. This is a public network, I occasionally visit other profiles' homes instead of only looking at my own personal feed. So one can still read posts even though one's own instance is down.
2. There are more communication networks where one communicates with fedizens.

Technically, you are correct.
The problem with your argument is that you assume other members of the fediverse use the network in the same manner that you do, but in fact this can be a frustrating roadblock to anyone who is new in the network that might not be participating in these additional forms of fallback communication.
Sorry for being dishonest when it comes to my regrets.
@wilkie Node maintenance isn't for the faint-hearted. Probably why not everyone runs their own node.
