Anyone have a recommendation for a method of learning touch typing for a rather frustrated HS student?

A manual typewriter will train muscle memory that lasts forever. Like riding a bike. I’ve been using a French azerty in qwerty mode for many years and don’t even look at the board.

Plus old are cool.

@wion @DenubisX I also learned on a manual (and have recently uncovered one that needs only a /very/ little TLC). I don't know if that helped or not, but it doesn't seem to have hurt.

I /don't/ elevate my wrists any more though -- jam them down on the desktop. Who cares about carpal tunnels anyway ....

@dredmorbius

My hands are still off the machine, for the most part, but just lightly touching at base of palms, by wrists. I find a heavy contact screws up my typing accuracy 10-fold. I was always impressed by people that can do that though, and a lot faster than me. (I’m a relatively slow typer, but accurate, aside from the damn apostrophe gremlins.)
