A
really fond childhood memory of watching every week with my father. 😃

@slaine@mastodon.ie @wonderofscience@mastodon.social

Weekly science shows on PBS were one of the things I could really connect with my dad throughout my childhood. I dunno how well the show has actually aged, but every watching transports me back.

@wonderofscience @ferricoxide The entirety of James Burke’s “The Day the Universe Changed” is also on there, which I was pleased to discover when I was laid up with COVID for days.

@wonderofscience @ferricoxide ...and this was the other one. Even all these years later the way that these shows showed you how the scientific method worked, how you used it to break things down into measurable, verifiable observations and deductions was an incredible inoculation against hucksters and snake oil and literally a path through life.

We don't see this much anymore. What's shown now on NatGeo or History or other 'science' stations makes me weep.

@wonderofscience @ferricoxide I've never watched anything of his, but I see it in my YT algorithm all the time

@wonderofscience I have the DVD set and should spin those up again soon...

@wonderofscience ripped the audio from the series a few years back, fall asleep listening every night. Something about the cadence and inflection in his delivery. Amazing.

@wonderofscience There are not that many shows that can make someone a lot smarter. That was one.

@wonderofscience a legacy in times before the internet. Pure genius!

@wonderofscience That's great to read. Many thanks. Carl Sagan is still a great loss.
