Hey Fediverse, I have a technical question on ..

When launching my linux without desktop, aka staying on a vconsole, when I start , keyboard input is... wrong.

For example, when using the cursor-keys, I only get capital letters (A, B) instead of cursor-movement.

Can anyone point me to a resource on how to fix that?

Boosts appreciated 🤙

Sorry. I'll see myself out.

@woozong

I had similar problem with Meta commands in virtual console.

@woozong is it just in Emacs, or everywhere in your terminal?

Try running "sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup" to set up the correct keyboard layout

@woozong sorry, should be "sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration" to change keyboard layout.

Although console-setup can be handy if the encoding is setup wrong.

I'll have to check, but I think it's everywher

@woozong I only run GUI Emacs, but these might be helpful:

emacswiki.org/emacs/LinuxConso
emacswiki.org/emacs/ConsoleKey

But the fundamental issue is that using a terminal emulator forces you to interact with software through obsolete 1970s abstractions, so there's a lot of this sort of thing.

Yes, Emacs is from the 1970s, too, but it's progressed more than ANSI X3.64.
