@yatchi what about tying a knot that you can pull out easily?? I learned how to do it relatively recently and it's the fuckin best

@yatchi also I HIGHLY contest bread boxes. 1) they always take up the maximum amount of space and are annoying to have to work around 2) fridges are 100x better for keeping bread fresh 3) actually in typing this I realized that since 'lawful good' basically translates to "status quo lover bullshit", it's actually perfect here

@mno aw, do they really not work well? i guess i wouldn't know

@yatchi I mean like. I've never had to be in charge of one, but recently I saw somebody complain about bread boxes failing in summer. which makes sense- this summer I've had to store all my bread in the fridge, cause we've had too much stocked up at once to safely keep out of the fridge *anywhere*!

@mno i looked at the wikipedia page and it talks about the chemical rationale behind keeping bread at room temperature. definitely makes sense that it'd do worse in warmer weather though

@yatchi what's the rationale? I'm not picking up on it...

@mno en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breadbox

bread goes stale not because of dehydration but because of retrogradation of starch, which occurs faster at cooler temperatures

food, food expiration Show more

yatchi @yatchi

@mno yeah maybe the dough conditioners or whatever they put in american bread is meant to address that. my family generally keeps sliced bread in the fridge but crustier bread on the counter
