@yogthos What the shit. The EU filed a takedown notice for their mirror of the arXiv --- that's basically declaring all of physics and math to be "terrorist content".
My mind boggles at what could possibly have led to this.
@bstacey it's pretty surreal, presumably it's just gross incompetence as opposed to malice though.
@yogthos That's the thing. I'm trying to imagine the sequence of incompetent failures that would lead to this outcome, and my mind just balks. Maybe some confluence of human error and bad software came together to make a baby that was this list of URLs ... but I want to know how. I'd *almost* entertain the speculation that someone was trying to blow up the system as a deliberate protest --- go after the librarians to show just how absurd takedowns can be! --- but that's downright fanciful.
These guys are like: hey, let's learn some bad stuff from Russia...
