@yogthos Why the fuck is a dryer connected to the internet?

@yogthos Oh no... It's real...
"Ultra Large Capacity Smart wi-fi Enabled Electric Dryer"

"""THINQ® SMART FEATURES"""
"SmartDiagnosis" "Remote Start"
"Energy Monitoring"

That is the most useless smart device I've seen yet...

lg.com/us/dryers/lg-DLE3500W-e

@rune @yogthos I like the "cycle complete" notifications for days when I have a lot of laundry to get through, but the rest is pretty useless.

@rune @yogthos It also sends out a monthly usage report, which is maybe interesting to some people.

@yogthos well it has to make heat to dry things… how do you think heat is made? 😄

@yogthos WTF? Internet for dryers? What's the purpose? That'd break my data cap.

@yogthos When your dryer has a better connection than your computer.

@yogthos I couldn't even imagine WHY anyone would want a product like this. All the "smart" products making all the people super "dumb", so it's a feature and not a bug, lol

@yogthos i wonder if it's downloading a blockchain to mine some crapcoin because, you know, apparently that's a normal thing to do

@yogthos why would they be ok with connecting their DRYER to the fucking internet then being worried when it's transfering data. Don't connect it to the net. Problem solved.

What is even the point? If I'm not in the house I don't care what my dryer is doing

@mgrondin @yogthos I could not agree more. I may be old school on this, but I don't see a need for appliances to be connected to the internet. If it's something that requires a manual intervention (like adding clothes to the dryer), then it does not need to be connected to a network.

@yogthos me when my oven starts sending 512GB of shitposts to the govt

@yogthos so disgusted by the disposable home appliance trend. It's all plastic and internet connected and they all suck.

@yogthos There's no way a dryer should use 1GB+ of daily traffic... unless it's laundering money

@yogthos

I'm waiting for the time my beer bottle will start sending data about the current "level" and the rate of drinking.

@yogthos How would a dryer be able to do this unless someone connected it to their wifi? Relatedly, YTF would anyone ever connect it to their wifi?

@yogthos oh god, I have a smart lg washer/dryer, I should check its usage...

@yogthos It's why I haven't connected any of our devices to the network. I mean, what's the point anyway?

@yogthos It's actually harder to find appliances that don't connect to the web than those that do.
