@mattdsteele I remember this as a meme, I don't remember if it was actually on the show

Did you know that Github offers RSS feeds for commits and releases for repositories?

How keep up-to-date with Github repositories using feediary blog.feediary.com/posts/2019-0

Checking out the "intrinsicsize" spec and it seems really reasonable. It allows you to specify the intrinsic width/height for an image/video element; no need to wait for it to download and thus potentially cause janky page reflows. github.com/ojanvafai/intrinsic

"Why just image and video? These are the only elements in [the HTML spec] that size to an external resource." <-- I always found this weird. An <img> has to download the PNG/JPEG before it can figure out how big it should be!

This was an absolute joy to read.

Big thanks to @paulrobertlloyd@twitter.com for a smart PR on personalsit.es that’ll make it easier for folks to add items.

Y’all should go ahead and add your sites 🚀

just learned that millipedes have only 230 legs

shout out to anyone else out there that feels like an insect with 230 legs pretending to have 1000

Tried playing Nintendo Switch with another Switch over wireless mode and it was slick! Despite the name, no WiFi is required. Impressed.

"How Facebook tracks you on Android (even if you don’t have a Facebook account)" media.ccc.de/v/35c3-9941-how_f

TL;DW: every Android app that includes the Facebook SDK (usually used for a "log in with Facebook" button) sends a beacon to Facebook as soon as the app is open (in the default settings for the SDK, so most developers don't disable it).

@gabek @mattdsteele would make for pretty relevant and interesting talk fodder, imo

American Airlines let me get all the way to the end of the checkout process before telling me that having contiguous seats with my family would be an upcharge of about $250. Classy.

@mattdsteele @gabek unenhanced experience could just be a linear video as long as the limitation and loss of fidelity was clearly communicated

@gabek probably just a numbers game, top X devices. Their movie needs progressive enhancement

@zachleat speaking of the negativity around quote-tweets, it didn’t even occur to me that it could be toxic until a few days ago when I saw this toot about how quote-toots won’t be a feature: mastodon.social/@Gargron/99662

And now I’ve read your blog post and yeah, learning a lot about how it can be a tool for negativity.

@carami Wow, I hadn't seen that. Respect to Mastodon 👍👍

I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's
