I'm somewhat torn on hashtags on .

Un-hash-tagged content is not searchable. This is a good thing as it means that people can't get swarmed by asshats just for mentioning a thing.

@zee From what I've seen of instagram, users just put a pile of hashtags at the bottom. Most of the time they are various alternatives of the same tag/phrase.

Hashtagging certain words within your post is basically opting in to search. Now users can find your post by searching for those tags.

I think mastodon users just forget to hashtag their posts. And they only make sense when youre talking about a specific topic. is a little too generic to be meaningful, for example

@zee only underscore apparently. I usually use camel case if I need a multi-word tag.
