Mastodon users, new and old:
You can add a caption, or alt-text, to images you toot!
These captions make your toots more accessible, by giving people who can't see the image a description of what's in the image.
Just hover over the image over you attach it and type a description in the spot that says "Describe for the visually impaired" before you hit the TOOT! button.
Please also encourage Mastodon app authors to add caption functionality. And please boost. Thanks!
@zigg This. Is. Awesome. My only complaint is that is ays "for the visually impaired" when actually accessible technology helps everyone.
@saradgore That’s a great point! I know I’m personally a regular user of both closed captioning and mouse-pointer magnification, and I don’t qualify as either deaf or blind.
@zigg Also the ability to tab through web pages and apps is considered an accessibility feature and I would be realllllly angry if a web page didn't have that.
