Rails promotes the use of a DATABASE_URL:

"postgresql://admin:admin@localhost/blog_development?pool=5"

Why is the database name a path? Can I address an individual table? How is the connection pool a query string?

A simpler and extensible alternative:

"type=postgresql user=admin password=admin host=localhost database=blog_development pool=4"
