I see two ways this whole thing can go in a bad direction for us:

1. Followers-only posts may go to Facebook, and we all know what Facebook does with our personal thoughts.
1a. It destroys the semi-public feeling that many Mastodon instances have until now.

2. It WSLs fedi - most casual users may gravitate towards Facebook's version of Fedi, due to company familiarity and the higher level of investment. Then, they would miss out on many of the benefits of moving off corporate social media.

As long as we hold our independence and don't start chasing Threads's features, EEE should devolve into point #2.

Which is still problematic - iiuc it's what happened to XMPP - but at least doesn't spell our death.
