@Edent I would settle for appliances (increasingly made by TV companies) with digital components that don't suck & oooze Planned Obsolescence. Like my LG microwave who's LED display half burnt out after only 2 years. Or my Samsung oven that's heating inconsistently.
I think people would be more open to technical features if they weren't so burned buy difficult to repair appliances designed to fail. We're nickle-and-dimed to death.

The problem was that they ended up using two different apps, but for them it was still better than getting up from the sofa 20 times a day.

@Edent I read the whole thing. I understand that you have the desire and the capacity to design your own. My point still stands, though. Most people do not have the capacity to go it alone, and big tech is voracious for anything they can monetise; they will seek to disrupt and dominate the entire market, including the mini makers like you. And if they can find a way to block your bespoke system, they will.

@Edent I agree. We bought some new appliances recently for our new kitchen, and most of them are smart to some degree. It’s incredibly useful to know that the freezer has been left open, that the dishwasher is nearly finished or is out of rinse aid. I can turn off the cooker hood via voice if I’ve sat down to eat and it’s still blasting away. It’s all Siemens kit, and it’s very well thought out.
