‘What’s the difference between me reading your work?” Sam #Altman (ChatGPT) asked.

‘It’s all free to read. What’s the difference? You’re outputting to potentially millions of people for commercial gain for no recompense, said [#Cadwalladr].

‘It’s fair use, he countered. It’s really not, I said. You’ve ingested the entire body of my work. It’s so easy to establish that.

And he was gone. Back to the controls of the tank that is soon to roll over all of us.’

I love Seth #Rogen for saying this to #Zuckerberg, #Altman, & #Bezos, & how craven that it was edited out: “It’s amazing that others [who have been] in this room underwrote electing a man who, in the last week, single-handedly destroyed all of American #science. It’s amazing how much good science you can destroy w/$320m & #RFK Jr, very fast.” The science is deeply personal for him & Lauren, who created #HFC, a foundation for #caregivers whose loved ones have #dementia.

1M AI Images = Water for 2,000 People. Still Worth the Likes?

The Viral Trend with a Hidden Cost

Social media is awash with #AI-generated Studio Ghibli-style images, from whimsical selfies to reimagined historical scenes. Over 6 million posts using Ghibli-related hashtags have already flooded Instagram alone, showcasing just how viral and beloved this aesthetic has become.

At the heart of this explosion in AI-generated creativity is the soaring popularity of tools like #ChatGPT, which reportedly added 1 million users in just one hour, according to #OpenAI CEO Sam #Altman. The hunger for AI-driven content creation has never been greater, fueled by both curiosity and the chase for social media clout.

But behind the pastel-colored euphoria lies a stark reality: every AI-generated image consumes real-world resources, including precious water, enough to sustain thousands in drought-stricken regions.

I hope we're all clear on the fact that #ChatGPT could not copy Ghibli's style without illegally training its #LLM with #Ghibli animation. But nobody gives a shit. Users don't give a shit, politicians don't give a shit, and Sam #Altman certainly doesn't give a shit. Even publishers don't seem to give a shit as long as they (not the authors/artists) get a piece of the pie. I hope Ghibli sues them into bankruptcy. (Not that many judges are likely to give a shit.)

First, I thought that I couldn't write fiction anymore because #reality gets crazy. Sometimes, I invent #SciFi plots just for fun, without writing. But now reality gets even weirder. I think that's the plan: We don't believe them. So, they install their #dystopic #apocalypse system while we still laugh about that insanity: wired.com/story/startup-nation (it's also archived).

”GPT 4.5 appears to be the system that was supposed to be GPT-5, relabeled in order to manage expectations downwards. And even so, with the less ambitious label, people were still disappointed. And of course, there is still no GPT-5, even after two years, of hype, bullshit, and cryptic hints. GPT 4.5, vibes and all, are the best Altman’s got. He was bluffing the whole time.”

#SamAltman: #OpenAI has been on the 'wrong side of history' concerning #opensource
#Altman admitted #DeepSeek lessened OpenAI’s lead in #AI, and he believes OpenAI has been “on the wrong side of history” when it comes to open source. While OpenAI has open sourced models in past, company has favored a proprietary, closed source approach.
Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s chief product officer, said OpenAI is considering open sourcing older models that aren’t state-of-the-art anymore.
