I can't find for sale anywhere a 1:4 #balun for HF. It is for a low height 40m inverted V #NVIS #antenna. Military versions such as #AS-2259 use the custom coax support pole as an impedance transformer.

To be clear, I mean 12.5 ohm balanced antenna side to 50 ohm unbalanced coax side. The ones for sale on eBay/Amazon seem to be mislabeled 4:1 ones.

Making one isn't an option: my hands don't work properly.

Anyone any ideas.

I’m giving a ‘special talk’ on April 12 (tomorrow) at 14:00 at @clab.tw 科技媒體實驗平台 in Taipei (Taiwan), about “Temporary and Distributed Libraries, active and independent librarianship”, as part of the great Radiotopia event co-organised by the Toolkit of Care project and C-LAB, with artists and activists using radio as a medium and a concept, curated by @shulea2, and coordinated by @stwst_linz (Linz, Austria) and @agenceapo33 (Nantes, France).

Antennas have always been a weak point of mine. After a decade away from the hobby, and downsizing from a house to a ground level duplex I'm trying to figure out what the hell I'm going to do for an antenna.

I've got my rig picked out (FT 991a) but wondering if I take the compromise and do something like their ATAS-120A and slapping that sucker on a tripod in the backyard when I want to play.

Looking for opinions / advice.

This is a shorting bar that grounds utility 240VAC aerial cables to the ground. Spare operator required per use.

It also acts as an adjustable, rotary V dipole, based on two alix telescopic verticals.

It should be extensible, but we never used it beyond 10m so far. Based on an idea by @yo9lig

As planned, I spent part of my day today home brewing a new VHF/UHF base station antenna. It was an easy project, and initial testing suggests it works great.

I wrote-up a complete description of the project, along with several photos. Take a peek here: querybang.com/2025/03/a-home-b

Now, time to get to building my new DX Commander R-r-r-r-r-r-r-rapidé to go with it! 😜

QueryBang · A Home Brew VHF/UHF (2m/70cm) Base Station Ham Radio AntennaI don’t frequently operate VHF/UHF at home — I rarely operate it anywhere to be honest. But I certainly don’t do it enough to justify spending the cash for a commercially produced anten…

Anyone know offhand, if an FM radio station is broadcasting from a hilltop to the northeast, how should I orient a standard cheap floppy wire dipole for best reception?

Assuming the antenna long axis is vertical, should the arms of the “T" be perpendicular to northeast?

Also, how could I couple a dipole to a clock radio with a short single wire antenna and no antenna terminals?

I personally watched someone use an air cannon at field day to put an antenna wire over a tree. So yes, this video is made as a toy but they can be useful.

I've seen slingshots used as well and dog toys. I watched someone use a long plastic pipe extension gizmo. I guess pick your tool. ;)

The wind died down, the sun came out, and I was able to trim the #OCFD #antenna for my #HF #HAMradio operations...
This is post-choke install, and post trim of the long side of the Off-Center Fed Doublet. I cut about a foot off of it, and BAM! the bands lined up.
I am SUPER happy with the results showing on the #NanoVNA Just need to go back out to the back yard and tie the feedpoint support up and then it's time to operate and test the antenna.
This has been a fun experiment.
