Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’
‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples!’
‘I tell you,’ he replied, ‘if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.’“
‭‭Luke‬ ‭19‬:‭38‬-‭40‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬

Can't help thinking of this every time I'm in #church. It doesn't seem to be cryptic. #Jesus not talking in parable or metaphor here. _Don't pray in public_. He goes on to give the Lord's Prayer as an example of how to keep it short ("But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking") but the bloody Christians think they've to chant it in unison.

It's like Life of Brian and it drives me nuts.

lemmy.dbzer0.comBread and yeast - Divisions by zeroMark 8:6-21 NIV He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them. The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha. The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side. The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.” They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.” Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” “Twelve,” they replied. “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” They answered, “Seven.” He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”

How is WHAT convincing?

I'm asking how people can claim to KNOW things that are obviously unknowable.

While the #Bible and your book are equally fictional, only one will be taken as truth by millions. Apples and oranges.

I wouldn't presume to know what other people's first instincts are, but that's just me.

Creeds Part 6: Event Ontology and the Recovery of Revelation

Christian theology has long relied on the categories of substance ontology—where reality is conceived as composed of static entities, each defined by its essence or nature. These categories provided a grammar in which the Church sought to express the mystery of God, especially in response to challenges that threatened to misrepresent the faith. But as we have seen, those categories came at a cost. Revelation, once proclaimed as a divine act in history, was reframed as a structure of […]

Bart Ehrman, one of the world's foremost New Testament scholars and textual criticism experts, delves into the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. This includes the use of narratives as historical sources, inconsistencies in the stories, and the power of storytelling in the conversion process.
