Weekend Stories<p>📚🖋️ <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/JohannesGutenberg" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JohannesGutenberg</span></a> is commonly perceived as the inventor of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/printing" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>printing</span></a>, yet, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Asia" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Asia</span></a> pioneered printing centuries earlier. From the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DiamondSutra" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DiamondSutra</span></a> of 868 CE from <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/China" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>China</span></a> to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Korea" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Korea</span></a>&#39;s metal movable type predating <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Gutenberg" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Gutenberg</span></a>&#39;s Bible by 80 years, Asia&#39;s innovations laid the groundwork for global information exchange. Inspired by a visit to the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GutenbergMuseum" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GutenbergMuseum</span></a> in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Mainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Mainz</span></a>, I explored the fascinating history of printing in this article:</p><p>🌍 <a href="https://www.fabriziomusacchio.com/weekend_stories/told/2024/2024-12-22-chinese_and_korean_bookprinting/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">fabriziomusacchio.com/weekend_</span><span class="invisible">stories/told/2024/2024-12-22-chinese_and_korean_bookprinting/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WeekendStories" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WeekendStories</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>histodons</span></a></p>

Hari Tulsidas<p>The Buddhist Diamond Sutra is the world’s oldest surviving complete printed book, dating back to 868 AD. The book is a sacred text of Mahayana Buddhism, which teaches the wisdom of emptiness and compassion. The book was discovered in a hidden cave in Dunhuang, China, in 1900, along with thousands of other manuscripts and artworks. The book is now preserved in the British Library and is available online for anyone to read.</p><p><a href="https://masto.ai/tags/Buddhism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Buddhism</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/DiamondSutra" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DiamondSutra</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/Dunhuang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dunhuang</span></a> <a href="https://www.openculture.com/2023/08/discover-the-buddhist-diamond-sutra-the-worlds-oldest-surviving-complete-printed-book-868-ad.html?utm_source=flipboard&amp;utm_content=shaneless%2Fmagazine%2Fancient+historicity" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">openculture.com/2023/08/discov</span><span class="invisible">er-the-buddhist-diamond-sutra-the-worlds-oldest-surviving-complete-printed-book-868-ad.html?utm_source=flipboard&amp;utm_content=shaneless%2Fmagazine%2Fancient+historicity</span></a>+</p>

Śraddhāpa<p>Recently I’ve been studying the Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā and I’m looking forward to presenting a paper on it at a conference next month. My translation of the full text is online at www.sraddhapa.com/vajra although I’m still thinking about how I might refine and improve it.
