While #minerals represent a tiny share of economic activity in China, the holdout of exports deeply impacts the #UnitedStates and elsewhere. When it comes to #export restrictions, what worries me more is #generic medication. Most of thse are manufactured in India and China. If either were to place #cess or #restrictions on those, patients in the US would be in a world of trouble. Generic formulations have very thin margins and prices are regulated by law. So, many of the importers would simply exit the market and #patients would #die. These #homicidal #pricks would not even bat an eyelid at that.

So if you open a #garment factory in the US, you will make jeans at $33 a pair. At 50% #tariff, the pair made in Lesotho can be imported at $15 (= $10 + 50%x$10). The US garment factory will be extremely uncompetitive. You can do this math with all other countries that #export #apparel to the US, and the conclusion will be the same.
This is why Trump's "Liberation Day" #tariffs will NOT bring new garment manufacturing #jobs to America. The math simply does not add up.
