The City Council last evening appointed Mrs. Janet #Fraser as a member of the #Wellington Hospital Board, vice the late Mr. J. W. Butler. At the present time Mrs. Fraser is assisting in nursing the infantile paralysis cases at the Children’s Hospital, being one of the ladies who responded to the Red Cross Society’s appeal for volunteers to help the regular nursing staff during the epidemic.

For expressing his opinion that there was not enough self-reliance among the people of New Zealand generally, and that they wanted to set out on their married careers by living at too high a rate, Mr. G. #Witty (Riccarton) found himself in trouble at the hands of Mr. P. #Fraser (Wellington Central) last night.
… Mr. Witty was prompted to observe that the people of to-day should not spend so much money on picture shows and luxuries. They should get down to bedrock, and provide homes for themselves. Mr. Witty harkened back to the living conditions of the pioneers and the settlers of years ago to make a comparison detrimental to the thrifty inclinations of the young people of to-day. “It is all very well to start in an eight or nine-roomed house,” he said. “Most of us have started much lower down than that. In the early days, people were content with a mud cottage, or a two-roomed cottage…”
Mr. Fraser sarcastically congratulated Mr. Witty “on living up to his recent reputation.” “He has not only crossed over to the Tory benches … but he has out-toried the Tories.”…

Wenn ich mich nicht irre, hat sich Frau Fraser von dem Teil mit dem Universitätenboykott distanziert.
Das war aber auch nicht der verlautete Anlass zur Ausladung sondern die allg und aktuelle Kritik an der Politik Israels durch ihre Unterschrift.
Wer kritische Meinungen an Universitäten mit halbgaren Argumenten verhindern will, hat als Rektor seinen Hut zu nehmen und auch sonsts nichts dort zu suchen.

Aufregung gab es jüngst um die Uni #Köln und die US-amerikanische feministische Philosophin Nancy #Fraser. Die Uni hat die renommierte Wissenschaftlerin von einer Gastprofessur wieder ausgeladen, weil diese im November eine pro-palästinensische Erklärung unterzeichnet hatte. Ohne Frage hat die Uni da, milde ausgedrückt, höchst unglücklich agiert. Was steht aber drin in der Erklärung „Philosophy for Palestine“ vom 1. November 2023?
