https://youtu.be/r9jGoqEfbRI #HMCS #Haida #Nootka #Micmac #Bonaventure Some old film my uncle took during his time in the Royal Canadian Navy.
I don't think I've shared some of these little treasures on Mastodon before.
The Canadian Navy is well known for Moosemilk, a bath of ice cream and liquor that brings every navy to our ship for Sunday morning #Moosemilk (There's a real official recipe) and in the senior rates mess, C&POs (Chiefs and Petty Officers) this is their lounge, decorated in trophies of crests, gifts and tokens from ships we sailed with.

WAKE THE FORENOON WATCH!
I quite enjoyed my short posting to the #Skeena. It was a French Ship, I'd been posted there after my French course, and at least I spoke good French .. they didn't
I had learned all the technical terms for ships in FRENCH and those who spoke French, had never learned them. très drôle
All my ships are gone now, but the stories remain

HMCS Charlottetown apparently has a propulsion issue, resulting in only one shaft being functional. The note I saw indicated only one engine operating, but CPF’s only have one engine (there are two turbines for high speed sailing)

It seemed likely I'd consider joining the #Military, since my father (& mother) had served. I'd seen the #Army life, the moves every year or two, & I wasn't having that. I went in the #NAVY, where ♪ you can put your mind at ease; Although my parents didn't think I'd last long, I stayed 33 years, on ships & in shore units.
Such as #HMCS #Annapolis #Nipigon #Margaree #Skeena #StCroix, #Ottawa #Cormorant #Athabaskan #Iroquois #CFFS #CFNES #MARLANT #MARCOM #NDHQ
Early digital photos were so small. These were produced from prints, they'd come back from developing on Floppy Disk, with the prints.
Taken by me, waiting for the ship to dock on the opposite side, so we could go ashore and waste some money. .
I think I have a photo of almost all my #Tshirts (that weren't destroyed) @mattdagley . But most are not indexed. there's 50 years of Navy Tees.
You may recognize Tuffs Cove #Dartmouth from the olden days of sail and Shannon Park.. #Selfie #TBT #Navy #PMQ #History #Portsmouth #UK

I must find the others and name them, should be one for all major events we participated in. *Oceans Of Mystery*, Edmund Fitzgerald, Irving Whale, Ocean Ranger, GTS Katie / Fisheries, there's a lot
I was looking for a light bulb, when an old #Navy RECALL list fell out.
That's the list used to reach all Ship's Company, if required, at any time.
Every ship uses these, but decades after the ship is gone, this is full of memories. I've lost touch since I retired, barely remember names.
I'm typing it into a list so I can remember the names of old wingers... #RCN #RCNavy #HMCS #Ship
I'd love to. But unlike @petersmithca I've not the patience to do such fine work.
This remains unpainted. In 1974, I went on HMCS Annapolis, DDH265, and I have mugs and stickers and badges.. but this one, Aluminium casted, still not painted. Never will be. #HMCS mementos, that I have no room for.. #RCN #RCNavy #Navy #memorabilia

it's not just crests and badges, some are also coffee mugs.
Difficult decisions in the cupboard, which are the collectables to keep, and what do I discard?
My #HMCS Cormorant insulated travel mug. This is perfect in a rolling boat, the wide base prevents it spilling in rough sea.
Also, I was the last crewman aboard Cormorant. I may keep this mug.

My sister shared with us some digitized 8mm video my grandpa and uncle took years ago including footage of #HMCS #Bonaventure and his ship #HMCS #Haida along with what looked like other #TribalClass warships. Very cool!
