Robin VleijTo keep myself focused on something positive (for myself at least), I went from a single iPhone for work and private to a dual phone setup. Just to play around with Android for the first time in some years again. The Mastodon app on Android (Pixel) is pretty slick. Together with a lot of <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#selfhosted</a> stuff ( <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/mailcow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mailcow</a> <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Immich</a> <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/matrix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#matrix</a> etc) it's actually not that big a deal to make an ecosystem swap. The rest of the apps are subscription models anyway. :-)

I just tried the remote machine learning functionality on GPU box I got to play with. Now the portal finds the people by their faces from the library. tiagoafpereira 🚲📷⌨️Converted an old laptop I had lying around to an <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#immich</a> server. The setup was painless and I had the whole thing running in 15 minutes. Sourcing a spare SSD from another machine took longer than that. Next step will be to copy all media currently stored on Google Photos and see how it goes.

In true hobby programmer fashion, I spent the weekend writing my own uploader (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, "this one will be better!") Yesterday evening, when I actually started to do the uploading part, I discovered that nginx was misconfigured, so I fixed that. Im fairly certain <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/digikam" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#digikam</a> can do what you ask, and im certain <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/shotwell" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#shotwell</a> can do it, but i dont use that anymore. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#immich</a> shows all the photos in a date timeline anyway so easy to find a certain pic that way aswell. So you would just have one extra step: import to /tempfolder & shotwell has that as an ingest folder, and output folder as the syncthing share.

Michael<a href="https://techhub.social/@bradley" class="u-url mention">@bradley</a> yep, it all works as you would expect, as <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#immich</a> has its own filesystem to save the info, but that would obviously be in immich itself, perhaps might be interesting to research if there is any durable cross compatible method of saving albums, but the amazing thing about immich is the photo analysis it does, so it can find all the pictures of a specific person, place, animal etc and its all ordered by date, so I have not used albums...

Michael<a href="https://techhub.social/@bradley" class="u-url mention">@bradley</a> originally I had <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#immich</a> as a full sync replacement for <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#apple</a> photos, didnt like it as it then puts them into the immich world instead and the way immich stores is UUID files and folders, combined with auto backing up screenshots, and other cruft.I like this much more Its called an "external library" in immich, and the VM has a read only samba mount point.

My devices connect to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wireguard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#wireguard</a> when out of the house so they can still access the server to sync!Hope that is helpful to someone, and let me know what I'm doing wrong and can improve!🧵 4/4

In the past I used Nextcloud Photos to backup my phone but now moved to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#immich</a>. Now finally can also move all my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/googlephotos" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#googlephotos</a> to my private cloud 🎉 Just triggered the export of the photos ;-)Again one small stepp away from google and co!
